Dialogue Across Difference Training

Would you like to feel confident in your ability to have difficult political conversations? Do you want to learn practical skills for managing conflict and dispute resolution in civic life?

Join us for this exciting new training that focuses on both the skills you need to engage in difficult dialogue, but also the knowledge you need to manage conflict as a civic leader. The morning session will draw from the field of psychology and will improve your skills around having hard conversations across differences. The afternoon session will focus on how to manage conflict as a leader, either facilitating a meeting or negotiating between opposing views.

Participants who complete the training will earn a Dialogue Across Difference badge of completion from The Patman Center for Civic and Political Engagementand the LBJ School of Public Affairs that can easily be added to your LinkedIn profile or your resume!

About our trainers: 

Becca North headshot

Dr. Becca North is a researcher, teacher and writer in the field of psychology. Her research is in the area of happiness and well-being—and more broadly, human flourishing.  She has an interdisciplinary background—with a Ph.D. in Psychology from The University of Texas, a Master’s in Public Affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, and an AB in History from Princeton University. 






 

Larry Schooler headshot

Dr. Larry Schooler (Ph.D., Nova Southeastern University) is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Communication Studies at The University of Texas at Austin. He teaches courses in conflict resolution and facilitation in Communication Studies, the Communication and Leadership degree program, and the Plan II Honors program.  He also serves as a mentor for students in the Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies Bridging Disciplines Program. Dr. Schooler’s research interests include restorative and transitional justice, truth and reconciliation commissions, dialogue and deliberation, mediation, and public participation in public policymaking.
